On Monday, October 28th, the Wareham Fire District Water Department will unveil a new sign to commemorate the purchase of 77 acres of land, now known as the Maple Springs Conservation Area. The sign will be erected at the entrance to the conservation area at 11:00 AM. This event celebrates the conservation efforts made possible through a $350,000 state grant that helped fund the $1.15 million purchase of land once owned by the A.D. Makepeace company.
The Maple Springs Conservation Area is set to become an important protected space, ensuring both the conservation of the land and the improvement of local water quality. The land sits directly above the Wareham Water Department’s wells, and protecting this space will play a significant role in maintaining and improving the town’s water resources.
This land, which was previously a cranberry bog, now transitions to a conservation area that benefits the entire Wareham community. The unveiling event will highlight the importance of land conservation in maintaining environmental and public health.
To reach the Maple Springs Conservation Area, take Maple Springs Road to the end, bear left at the cranberry bog, and cross over the canal bridge. Continue straight past the Maple Springs Water Treatment Plant on the left and proceed to the end of the dirt road. The community is invited to attend the unveiling and learn more about the significance of this conservation effort.
