Buzzards Bay Coalition: Valentine’s Stargazing on Wickets Island
Join us for an evening under the stars at Onset Beach and Wickets Island! In groups, take the short boat trip over to Wickets Island to get a 360° view from the top away from light pollution (requires climbing stairs), cozy up by the campfire, and look to the stars! Stargazing will be self-guided, and an astronomy teacher will offer participants an opportunity to use a telescope as we look to the sky and enjoy a chilly night by the bay!
Please arrive 5-10 minutes before your selected time to make sure you are ready to board the boat to the island. Once on-island, you are welcome to stay for the duration of the event, or head back to shore whenever you choose (boat available every 20-30 minutes). The event ends at 7:30pm, at which time, all participants will be ferried back over to the Onset Pier.
This event is free and open to all! Participants are welcome to bring telescopes if they choose (bring equipment at your own risk).
Participants will not be getting wet aboard the boat. Please dress warmly, considering the weather and cooler temperatures out on the water. Bring a blanket or towel to sit on. There are no restroom facilities on the island, so please plan accordingly. In the case of inclement or unsafe weather, the event will be canceled and participants will be notified 24 hours in advance. RAIN DATE will be Wednesday, February 11.
